SJCP Fall Protection, Roofing, and VESDA System Upgrade

MAI was tasked with designing and installing independent structural steel fall protection assemblies for 12 active critical testing chambers within an operational laboratory. All work was completed without disrupting ongoing lab operations. The design process, closely managed by MAI and design partners, ensured seamless integration with the existing spatial and chamber conditions. MAI successfully delivered the fall protection system on schedule without affecting the lab's functionality.

Additionally, MAI was awarded the upgrade of the facility's VESDA fire alarm system. The project included replacing outdated infrastructure with advanced VESDA technology and extending coverage into high-ceiling areas where traditional fire testing methods were impractical. MAI implemented an innovative solution by creating a rooftop "testing zone," allowing air samples to be drawn directly from the ceiling level. This approach preserved interior space and allowed for early completion without disrupting lab operations.

In parallel, MAI replaced approximately 70,000 square feet of TPO roofing and underlayment as part of a cost-efficiency strategy. This work was coordinated with the fall protection and VESDA upgrades. To minimize delays from weather conditions, MAI implemented a phased approach, prioritizing critical zones based on weather forecasts and installation durations, ensuring timely completion with minimal weather-related delays.
